About Mary Beth Covert,PsyD, ABPP
Therapy for adults online in NY, TN, DC, FL, VA.
Hi, I'm Mary Beth Covert.
I'm a Licensed Board Certified Clinical Psychologist who works with adults who have experienced trauma or loss. My goal is to help you stop feeling numb, avoidant, fearful, and overwhelmed and start helping you discover healing and peace.
My Journey To Becoming A Psychologist
Sometimes life goes off script–I understand this both personally and professionally. I'm a partner of 21 years and after several years of infertility, became a parent by way of domestic adoption to our two incredible kiddos. Familiar with caring for special needs and nurturing relationships through the ups and downs, I'm also a breast cancer survivor.
Just like many of my clients, I had an idea of what my life was going to look like and then stuff happened. Courage and joy are two important things I’m learning, alongside grief, to get through it all. Today I know that living wholeheartedly after life throws stuff your way is possible.
My many life experiences have helped me have compassion for a lot of things and shaped the therapist I am today.
Helping People Is A Gift To Others, But Also Myself
Being a psychologist is an honor that I do not take lightly and am deeply grateful for. I love helping people find their courage and joy to live more fully into who they are and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a psychologist is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and excited about their life.
I am committed to helping you discover healing and joy.
I Have Compassion For People And Bring Clarifying Presence and Non-judgemental Warmth to Sessions
I have a natural ability to help clients heal their past and live into the present with more freedom and joy.
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can be fully present for people's stories, even if they are difficult stories.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Sessions will provide you with the space to feel what you need to feel. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to gain clarity and relief.
It's important to me to provide a collaborative safe space where we focus on your healing. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.
As A Psychologist, I Embrace The Following Philosophies
I believe that you are worthy of love and care
I believe that survivors are not what happened to them
I believe that taking care of yourself is the most generous thing you can do for the world
I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do

My Professional Background
I received a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2006 and had the honor of beginning my career working at a Veterans' Hospital for over a decade. During that time, I obtained extensive training in trauma-focused treatments (EMDR, CPT, PE, Brainspotting). Currently, in addition to my private practice, I'm a Contract Therapist & Clinical Supervisor at Onsite Workshops near Nashville, TN & The Oaks in Southern CA, where I supervise therapists and lead groups as well as individual & couples intensives.
